CT demonstrated an inflamed Meckel’s diverticulum (MD) (figure 1). Single-incision laparoscopy (SILS) was performed (figure 2) and MD was identified and exteriorised. Extracorporeal resection and anastomosis of small bowel containing MD was performed. The patient recovered well and was discharged home 2 days later. MD, a true congenital diverticulum, is the most common malformation of the gastrointestinal tract and is present in approximately 2% of the population. It was named after Johann Meckel, who described the omphalovestigial embryological origin in 1809. The most common presenting symptoms are rectal bleeding, intestinal obstruction, volvulus, intussusception and abdominal pain. Technetium99m pertechnetate scintigraphy is the investigation of choice in children while CT is diagnostic in adults. Treatment options are diverticulectomy or ileal resection by open or laparoscopic techniques. SILS is a new modality which aims to reduce the scars of standard laparoscopy, offering a better cosmetic outcome with reduced incisional pain. It also potentially reduces adhesion formation, port-site infections, hernias and enhances the recovery time. The

Laparoscopic resection of a huge gangrenous Meckel's diverticulum in an adult.
This report highlights the rare occurrence of a huge gangrenous Meckel's diverticulum in an adult, which was managed successfully with laparoscopic resection. A 45-year-old woman presented with a one-day history of right iliac fossa pain with fever and vomiting. Computed tomography showed a huge gangrenous Meckel's diverticulum. The patient underwent laparoscopic exploration and extracorporeal ...

INTRODUCTION Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is a congenital true diverticulum that is residual yolk duct tissue, and some cases with complications require surgery. It has been reported that laparoscopic surgery is effective for patients with an MD. PRESENTATION OF CASE A 79-year-old man with melena visited our hospital. Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is a common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract, the majority of cases of which are clinically silent. Patients with asymptomatic MD can unexpectedly develop acute abdominal pain. Making a diagnosis of MD is often difficult due to the lack of specific symptoms caused by this condition. Diagnostic laparotomy can be useful for making an accurate and prompt ...

Meckel's diverticulum is one of the primary concerns in the differential diagnosis of the pediatric patient with massive, acute gastrointestinal bleeding, intussusception, or abdominal pain of uncertain cause. The hospital course of two children with Meckel's diverticulum, successfully treated by laparoscopic excision, is presented, along with details of the operative procedure. Both patients r...

To investigate the management of Meckel's diverticulum in children and the feasibility of using laparoscopic and laparoscopically assisted Meckel's diverticulum resection and intestinal anastomosis according to the different subtypes classified laparoscopically. 55 symptomatic Meckel's diverticulum cases were classified into two categories, the simple and the complex types depending on Meckel's...
